Make Your Own Bisquick Mix

I make up this imitation Bisquick Mix and use it for waffles, pancakes, chicken pot pie, and biscuits. Mixes are so handy and this one has been a big time saver for me. You can buy a Canola Oil shortening at health food store but I will warn it can be pretty expensive. For this mix I use half of the flour as white, and half as Prairie Gold wheat flour.

Make Your Own Bisquick Mix

8 1/2 cups flour
1 Tb baking powder
1 Tb salt
2 tsp cream of tarter
1 tsp. baking soda
1 1/2 cups instant nonfat dry milk
2 1/4 cups vegetable shortening

Sift together all dry ingredients in a large bowl. Mix well. With a pastry blender, cut in shortening. Mixture should resemble corn meal in texture. Put in a large airtight container. Label with date showing. This mix should be used in 10-12 weeks. Store in a dry cool place. Makes about 13 cups of quick mix.
